Brazilian pianist Erik Escobar has released a superb new jazz funk/fusion EP with bassist Michael Pipoquinhal and drummer/percussionist Miguel Assis on Steve Conry and Cziz Hall’s Ten Lovers Music label, appropriately titled New Brazilian Trio EP.

Bobby Cole’s vocal jazz dance classic “A Perfect Day”, from his hard-to-find 1967 album A Point of View, has just been officially reissued as a 7inch single by the German-based Tramp Records.

Legendary Chicago-based multi-percussionist, bandleader, vocalist, composer, and educator Kahil El’Zabar follows-up two essential albums for London’s Spiritmuse Records, in Be Known Ancient/Future/Music and America The Beautiful, with another brilliant full-length on the label, titled A Time For Healing.
UK’s Mr Bongo label has recently released a remarkable new 7inch, featuring a brilliant new rendition of Minoru Muraoka’s Japanese folkloric-rooted breakbeat classic “The Positive and the Negative” by cinematic instrumental soul band Surprise Chef. If that wasn’t enough, the double A-side single also includes a Mr Bongo edit of the original gem.
Legendary Hammond B3 organist “Big” John Patton was one of the most influential artists among the 60s soul jazz movement, releasing numerous classic recordings for Blue Note Records like Along Came John, Let ‘Em Roll, Understanding, and many others. Now, his lesser known but equally brilliant 1983 album, titled Soul Connection, receives a much-welcomed reissue from Paul Murphy’s Jazz Room Records.
