Over the past few months, a number of essential, must-own reissues have made their way to record shops—from Roger Glenn and the Mizell Brothers’ classic jazz-funk album Reachin’ and Boy Katindig’s sublime Filipino fusion gem After Midnight, to Dynamite Cuts’ 7-inch release of The Sons and Daughters of Lite’s “Let the Sun Shine In” and Gap Mangione’s 1968 holy grail Diana In The Autumn Wind. Here, we dive in and explore a few of this summer’s standout reissue releases.
Roger Glenn — ‘Reachin”

Originally released in 1976, Roger Glenn’s Reachin’ is a rare jazz-funk treasure produced by Larry and Fonce Mizell, aka The Mizell Brothers, who reunited with their former high school bandmate for the project. A long-time Bay Area resident, vibraphonist/flutist Glenn crafted a mystic blend of Latin jazz, cosmic funk, and rare groove alongside San Francisco’s finest young players. The record includes a number of standout tracks, including “Don’t Leave,” “Kick,” the title track “Reachin'” and notably “Rio,” a fast fusion samba, and beloved jazz dance classic.
Released as part of Jazz Dispensary’s Top Shelf series, this well-crafted reissue has been cut straight from the original master tapes and pressed on 180-gram vinyl.
Boy Katindig — ‘After Midnight’

Filipino jazz keyboardist and bandleader Boy Katindig, together with his father Romy, helped pioneer Latin jazz in Manila. His classic and hard-to-find 1980 album After Midnight is a sublime Filipino take on jazz-fusion, disco-funk, and Latin jazz, now finally reissued on Sama Sama Records, the boutique label run by DJ and collector Norsicaa (formerly of Soundway). Across its eight tracks, Katindig blends soulful melodies with batucada rhythms, and his version of Greg Phillinganes’ “Love Till the End of Time” stands as a jazz dance classic, fusing instrumental disco funk with unmistakable fusion grooves.
The Sons and Daughters of Lite – ‘Let the Sun Shine In, Part One & Two’ 7″

The London label Dynamite Cuts brings The Sons and Daughters of Lite’s 1977 soulful spiritual jazz classic, “Let the Sun Shine In,” to 7″ vinyl for the first time. This Oakland-based group’s timeless track features the cosmic, soulful first half of the song on Side A, while Side B delivers the more uptempo, dancefloor-friendly second half of the track. It’s limited to just 350 UK copies, plus 150 copies of a special Japanese version with OBI strip (which may already be sold out). Move quickly on this one!
Gap Mangione – ‘Diana In The Autumn Wind’

Be With Records delivers the first-ever vinyl reissue of Gap Mangione’s monumentally influential 1968 holy grail, Diana In The Autumn Wind. Long coveted by funk, soul, jazz, and hip-hop DJs and collectors, this deluxe edition was fully remastered with Gap’s involvement. Arguably the most sought after album for J Dilla and Madlib sample collectors, the vivid, big-band-inflected recording blends funky jazz and soulful orchestration with warm electric piano, organ, and lyrical horns and a ridiculously tight rhythm section. The 12-track full-length plays like an unreleased library funk breaks masterpiece—rich, melodic, and cinematic—yet flows as a cohesive, emotionally resonant jazz suite rather than just a crate-digger’s sample source.
