Aldorande

Spaced-out jazz-funk debut from French quartet Aldorande

Spaced-out seventies-era inspired jazz-funk quartet Aldorande release their debut self-title recording on the French-based label Favorite Recordings.

Led by bassist Virgile Raffaëlli, and featuring keyboardist Florian Pellissier, drummer Mathieu Edouard, and percussionist Erwan Loeffel, this group blends heavy bass grooves and funky percussion with cosmic synth lines, and atmospheric tones. This twelve-track album truly captures the spirit of some of the best cosmic and astral-jazz recordings that were being released in the seventies by artists like Herbie Hancock, Lonnie Liston Smith, Marc Moulin, and George Duke. In perfect conjunction with their space-age instrumental sound, the album features a fictional sci-fi story about the band boarding a starship, traveling through space, and landing on an unknown planet that’s given the name “Aldorande” as a creative way to help describe the records music. A nice touch to say the least.

With their sonic journey through space, the French quartet have certainly put together an incredible electric-based cosmic jazz recording that ranks right up there with any album that’s been released this year. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
