STR4TA — Aspects

Brownswood releases debut 12inch single from new Brit-funk group STR4TA

Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood label has released the first 12inch single, of what has become one of the most anticipated forthcoming full-length albums of the year (released Nov 2020), in STR4TA’s “Aspects”.

Inspired by pioneering bands like Freeez, Atmosfear, Light of the World, and others, “Aspects” blends together late 70s and early 80s Brit-funk and jazz-fusion grooves, with soulful hypnotic vocals and spacey-synth melodies. With this debut single, STR4TA truly succeeds in celebrating one of the most fruitful DIY genres to come out of the UK, while pushing the sound forward. For months, this track and other material from the album have received solid rotation from Gilles, Colin Curtis, and many other notable DJs and independent radio shows.

As we continue to wait with much-anticipation for the release of the full-length record, it’s great to see this brilliant first single pressed onto wax and made available. This single and other material circulating from the recording have definitely been some of the best music I’ve heard in 2020.
