Marvin Gaye — More Trouble

Outtakes from Marvin Gaye’s 1972 ‘Trouble Man’ soundtrack released on vinyl for the first time

During the same week that we remember and celebrate the late great soul legend Marvin Gaye, who was born on April 2, 1939 and tragically passed on April 1st, 1984, Tamla records will be releasing, for the first time on vinyl, a collection of outtakes from his incredible 1972 soundtrack to Ivan Dixon’s film Trouble Man.

Titled, More Trouble, the nine tracks featured on the record were originally included as part of Trouble Man’s 40th anniversary, which until now, was only available on CD and digitally. Some of the highlights include a brilliant unedited version of the instrumental jazz-funk classic ‘“T” Plays It Cool,’ an extended version of the title track “Trouble Man,” and the movie’s main theme featuring strings.

The original release of the Trouble Man soundtrack came out on December 8, 1972, and was the follow-up to his more politically charged classic What’s Going On. Interestingly, the more recent posthumous album Youre the Man was intended to be released prior to Trouble Man, however executives at the label decided to move forward with the soundtrack instead.

Regardless, for both Marvin Gaye and soul fans, More Trouble is an absolutely essential and must-own record, featuring remarkable alternative takes from one of the greatest soundtracks ever released.
