Funk 45: New soulful gem from Carlton Jumel Smith and Cold Diamond & Mint

The Finland-based Timmion Record label, who has a strong reputation for releasing new limited-edition funk and soul forty-fives, has recently released an incredible 7inch single, titled “This Is What Love Looks Like!” by Carlton Jumel Smith.

Like many of the other releases on the Timmion label, the soulful track is backed by the studio band Cold Diamond & Mint, which is comprised of some of the best soul and funk musicians currently coming out of Finland. On this track, the group is also joined by multi-instrumentalists Tuomo Prättälä and Jimi Tenor, as well as trumpeter Jukka Eskola.

This four-minute song is dripping with soul that is strongly carried by Smith’s uplifting vocals, blaring horn melodies, and funky guitar rhythms. The track is definitely one for the dancefloor, perfectly capturing that sixties Northern soul sound.

Overall, a brilliant new single from the New York-native and CD&M, who also look to make their mark this year with a full-length release.
