Outernational Sounds reissues highly sought-after 1979 Irish jazz LP by Noel Kelehan Quintet
London’s Outernational Sounds, which is superb label run by Harv Nagi, has recently reissued the highly-obscure 1979 album Ozone by the legendary Irish jazz ensemble Noel Kelehan Quintet.
Originally released on the independent Cargo imprint and pressed on blue vinyl, this six-track recording features a brilliant mix of modal and spiritual jazz selections. Standout cuts include the moody “Spon Song”, the subtle Latin-flavored “Spacer’s Delight”, and the mid-tempo groover “Triers Not Fliers”.
Led by acclaimed pianist and composer Noel Kelehan, the band’s lineup also includes saxophonist Keith Donald, trumpeter Mick Nolan, bassist Frank Hess, and drummer John Wadham.
With original copies now going for hundreds of dollars, it’s nice to see this essential European jazz recording receive a proper reissue. Another impressive release from Outernational Sounds.
Highly recommended!
