On The Corner Records — International Women's Day

On The Corner Records celebrates International Women’s Day w/ exclusive music & art

On The Corner Records celebrates this year’s International Women’s Day (March 8, 2019) with an exclusive two track release featuring three of the labels most forward-thinking female musicians, as well as a limited-edition print from the brilliant Victoria Topping.

“Again” is the first single from Oakland-based spoken word artist and educator Tenesha The Wordsmith’s upcoming debut album The Collection (released this summer). Featuring London-based saxophonist and Collocutor bandleader Tamar Osborn, this incredible track blends Tenesha’s powerful spoken verses with Osborn’s fierce baritone saxophone lines, electronic beats, and cosmic atmospheric textures.

The second track on this exclusive IWD release, titled “Ashikibaya,” comes from Zanzibar-based vocalist Siti Muharam. With the contributions from producer Sam Jones, music director Issa Matona, and students of the Dhow Countries Music Academy, Muharam channels the strong legacy of her great-grandmother Siti Binti Saad, who was the first lady of Taarab. Fusing jazz and Middle Eastern influences, the track is a brilliant modern take on the East African-rooted genre.

As a part of this great exclusive digital-only release, 30 limited-edition prints by Victoria Topping are also available. Topping is the incredible graphic artist that has designed all but one of On The Corner’s album covers.

Another important element of this release, is all the proceeds from these tracks and exclusive prints will be donated to causes selected by each of the four artists.

Overall, a truly remarkable release to help bring awareness to an important day celebrating female artists and women internationally.
