London’s 2000Black label releases mysterious cosmic jazz dance recording ‘Project X’

Based out of London and run by highly-acclaimed producer Dego (Pavel Kostiuk, 4hero), the 200Black label collective ( named after a 1975 Roy Ayers’ recording) have recently released a brilliant jazz-influenced dancefloor recording from a mysterious group that goes by Project X.

2000Black has provided very little details for this 8-track album regarding personnel and date of the session, simply describing the recording as “a non-partisan group primarily operational in the late 20th Century.” Further stating, ” Their only confirmed action was creating and compiling previously unreleased music to highlight various events of the time.”

Musically, the album incorporates a wide array of influences and genres, blending together jazz-funk, electronic downtempo grooves, samba-soaked rhythms, hip-hop beats, and spacey synth melodies. It’s even hard to say when the music was recorded, connecting the cosmic side of jazz sounds from over the last five decades.

Even though there is very little to know about the players and background of this recording, the most important part of any release, the music, is absolutely incredible. This is one of those records that you just put on, enjoy, and don’t worry about the details.
