The Paris-based label WEWANTSOUNDS continues it’s ongoing collaboration with blockbuster producer, writer, director and standup comic Judd Apatow, and his sister Mia on highlighting some of greatest music to come out of Mainstream Records, a sixties and seventies era jazz-focused label run by their grandfather Bob Shab.

Following successful stints working with Manor Records, Mercury Records, and EmArcy, well-accomplished music producer Shad founded Mainstream. The label was very active in the late sixties and seventies, releasing some of the most notable jazz-funk recordings by artists like Roy Haynes, Mike Longo, Art Farmer, Frank Foster, Alice Clark, Hadley Caliman, Charles Kynard, Curtis Fuller, and many others.

Titled This Is Mainstream!, this new 13-track release is the third compilation and seventh overall Mainstream record reissued by WEWANTSOUNDS. The double-LP focuses on some of the catalogue’s heaviest breakbeat jazz, funk, and soul grooves originally released between 1970 and 1973. The record features music by Blue Mitchell, Hal Galper, Pete Yellin, Buddy Terry, Reggie Moore, Sarah Vaughan, Maxine Weldon and others. The compilation also features some tracks by lesser known artists like Saundra Phillips, December’s Children, and Almeta Lattimore.

With this great new compilation, WEWANTSOUNDS continues to shed light on one of the best independent jazz labels of the seventies.
