East Coast Love Affair — Don't Be Afraid

Athens of The North’s East Coast Love Affair releases cosmic disco version of “Don’t Be Afraid”

Edinburgh’s Athens of The North puts out the first release from the label’s house band East Coast Love Affair, featuring a brilliant new version of Sky’s The Limit’s highly obscure 1976 soulful funk gem “Don’t Be Afraid”.

Where the original, which goes for upwards of $1,000, features a more seventies-era Philadelphia soul vibe (Harold & The Blue Notes, MFSB), this new rendition has a more cosmic disco vibe with hypnotic vocals and spacey synths. On the flip, the band features the percussion-heavy afro-funk groover “Taken for Granted”.

According to AOTN, this is the first in a series of covers they will be releasing over the next six months with a full-length album forthcoming in 2021. If the first single is any indication of things to come, I highly recommend snatching up everyone of these releases. Definitely one of the best 7inch singles of the year.
