Brownswood’s Skinny Pelembe Releases New Collaborative EP
Following up on his superb ‘Spit/Swallow’ single earlier in the year, the multi-talented producer Skinny Pelembe has just released a brilliant new EP titled Sleep More, Make More Friends, his second off of Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood label. Featuring four contrastingly different tracks, the new recording blends electronic beats, hypnotic harmonies, and atmospheric melodies with elements of hip-hop, psych-rock, and jazz.
This EP is his most adventurous and collaborative release to date, featuring a number of great special guests from the UK scene including rising vocalist star Yazmin Lacey, south-east London band Hejira, Sonia Bernardo (who sings for Roxy Music’s Phil Manzanera), and trumpeter/multi-instrumentalist and producer Emma-Jean Thackray.
The EP’s track-listing includes “Not Your Friend Not Your Enemy (ft. Yazmin Lacey),” “Live From The High As A Kite (ft. Sonia Bernardo),” “Field Notes #1 (ft. trumpet solo by Emma-Jean Thackray),” and arguably one of the best tracks of the year in “I Just Want To Be Your Prisoner (ft. Hejira).” Maybe try sleeping more … but not on this EP!
