Yussef Dayes Releases Limited-Edition Debut Single ‘Love Is The Message’
One of my favorite twelves released over the past month comes from a collaborative effort from some of the UK’s most forward-thinking musicians in drummer Yussef Dayes teaming up with keyboardist Alfa Mist, guitarist Mansur Brown, and bassist Rocco Palladino.
Recorded live in the legendary Abbey Road studio earlier last year, this brilliant 11-minute spacey jazz fusion groover was inspired by Stan Douglas’ tribute to Miles Davis’ On The Corner LP, Luanda-Kinshasa. The twelve-inch single is also Yussef Dayes first official release (as a leader) since the disbandment of Yussef Kamaal in spring of 2017.
The recording was released by The Vinyl Factory this past December on a single-sided blue twelve-inch, limited to 1,000 copies. With most of the copies already sold, I highly recommend snatching up any of the last copies that might be out there.
With this breakthrough release, I’m looking forward to seeing what Yussef Dayes and company might have planned for the coming year.
