WONDERFULSOUND release new Balearic 7inch featuring J-Walk and The Hi-Fires
Founded in 2010 by Miles Copeland (bandleader of the lo-fi British pop band The Superimposers), London’s WONDERFULSOUND label have been releasing a wide range of good music for over a decade. In 2018, they launched an exclusive subscription-based 7inch “Singles Club” featuring six releases per year. The label has recently made many of these singles available for non-subscribers, including the brand new double A-side 45rpm release featuring brilliant new Balearic tracks from both J-Walk and The H-Fires.
The A side of this new single features Manchester’s J-Walk’s (aka Martin Brew) latest cosmic instrumental groover “Bossa For Shorty D”, which nicely fuses together spacey synths and atmospheric tones, backed by Bossa Nova-influenced percussion rhythms. On the flip, The Hi-Fires provide some nice breezy Balearic vibes blended together with some solid saxophone melodies from Gary Plumley (Michael Kiwanuka/Terry Callier/ Swing Out Sister).
Overall, this is definitely the kind of release that can sometimes slip through the cracks, however I highly recommend not sleeping on this one. It’s certainly one of the standout 7inch releases that have come out this year.
