Brief Encounter — Human

UK’s Pressure Makes Diamonds reissues Brief Encounter’s 1977 obscure two-step groover ‘Human’

Over the last few years, UK’s Pressure Makes Diamonds, which is a label run by Graham Luckhurst and Gary Johnson, has reissued some of the most obscure soul and funk singles you’ll come across on Discogs. The label continues their string of impressive releases with quite possibly their most welcomed reissue to date, in Brief Encounter’s mid-seventies obscure two-step “holy grail” 7inch Human.

Released by producer John Richbourg’s independent Sound Plus label in 1977, original copies of the record now go for upwards of $500. Over the years, the record has been in very high demand with the 7inch single being reissued a couple of different times, including by Soul Jazz Records/Sounds Of The Universe in 2016. For those that might be familiar, this is one of tracks used on the jingle at the start of Gilles Peterson’s BBC 6Music show.

Limited to just 1,000 (which will go quick), this incredible mid-tempo rare groove stepper has been made available again. Overall, an absolute essential “must-own” record in anyone’s collection, and just another timeless gem from North Carolina soul-funk band.
