Andrew Ashong & Kaidi Tatham

UK’s Andrew Ashong & Kaidi Tatham team up for highly-anticipate EP ‘Sankofa Season’

British-Ghanaian soul singer, songwriter, and producer Andrew Ashong joins forces with one of the most innovative and influential UK broken beat artists over the past two decades in keyboardist and producer Kaidi Tatham to release a brilliant new EP, titled Sankofa Season.

Representing the first release from Kitto Records, a new label out of Belfast and London, this six-track EP nicely blends Ashong’s layered soulful vocals with 80s-era boogie and jazz-funk grooves, cosmic synth melodies, and broken beat rhythms. Some of the record’s backing instrumentation even has a slight Brit-funk vibe to it.

Often described as the UK’s Herbie Hancock, this is just the latest in what has amounted to a truly remarkable musical journey for Tatham, who has been a part of pioneering London production collectives like Bugz In The Attic, DKD, Silhouette Brown, Blakai, Likwid Biskit, Neon Phusion and others. For Ashong, this marks his first release since he independently put out his superb self-titled hypnotic soul EP in 2014. The idea for the record all came about after the two met in Belfast, while Ashong was performing a DJ set.

Overall, Sankofa Season is truly an impressive collaborative recording that defies any one genre or style, and instead weaves it’s way through each of the two artist’s influences and distinct musical languages. Definitely one of the best and most dynamic EP releases of 2020.
