UK producers Don Pascal & Tom Funk team up for new project September Sun on superb 7inch single
Two of London’s groundbreaking producers, Don Pascal (Afro Atlantic/Vintage Sounds broadcasts) and Tom Funk (aka The Sultan’s Swing), team up with an incredible trio of special guests in saxophonist/flautist Tamar Osborn, drummer Myele Manzanza, and percussionist Ozan Nidayi (of Natural Lateral) on a superb limited-edition 7inch release, September Sun.
This brilliant two-track single, featuring the title track “September Sun” and b-side cut “Morning Song” nicely blends together 70s-influenced jazz-funk with spiritual melodies and textures. Both tracks were composed, arranged, produced and mixed by Tom Funk and Don Pascal, with them playing multiple instruments during the session.
When it comes to modern-day groove-oriented spiritual jazz, it really doesn’t get much better than what’s captured on this recording. Let’s just hope there is an album from this group in the works.
