Brooklyn-based trumpeter Dave Guy has been a contributing member of some the most groundbreaking groups over the last twenty-plus years, including The Roots, The Dap Kings, Menahan Street Band, El Michels Affair, and The Budos Band, and has shared the stage with everyone from Amy Winehouse and Lizzo to Lee Fields, Sharon Jones, Charles Bradley, and others. He now steps out on his own, and releases his debut 7inch release for Big Crown Records.

Jazz Room Records issues 7inch with two funky gems from Urguayan pianist Mike Dogliotti

On top of continuously putting out a number of well-crafted full-length reissues, over the last few year’s Paul Murphy’s Jazz Room Records has also issued a number of essential 7inch releases, often included selections on that format for the first time. That is certainly the case here, with the double-sided single from Urguayan pianist Mike Dogliotti featuring two rare dancefloor gems.

Following his incredible album Firebird, which was released earlier this year, legendary UK producer, deejay, and acid jazz pioneer Chris Bangs has put together an exciting new ensemble project, called Nova Vida. Ahead of the group’s highly-anticipated Spring 2024 full-length debut, they have recently released a brilliant new 7inch single titled My Only on BDQ Records.

Tokyo’s 45trio covers Weldon Irvine’s soulful classic “I Love You”

A record that seemed to receive a lot of worthy play across numerous notable online radio shows (Colin Curtis, Kev Beadle, and others) during the final two months of 2022, was 45trio’s brilliant instrumental of Weldon Irvine’s soulful 1976 classic ‘I Love You’. Led by pianist and producer SWING-O, the Tokyo-based group, which formed back in 2009, also features bassist Sunapanng and drummer Masahiko Kubo.

Japan’s cosmic trio Nautilus release new 7inch single ‘Looking Back / Paint it Black’

Since 2014, Tokyo-based jazz-funk trio Nautilus (named after Bob James’ 1974 fusion classic) has been at the forefront of the incredible music currently coming out of Japan. Led by drummer Toshiyuki Sasaki, and featuring founding bassist Shigeki Umezawa and more recent keyboardist Mariko Nakabayashi, the group is consistently active, releasing highly sought-after full-length and 7inch singles featuring a strong mix of originals and covers of timeless classics. For their sixth release(!!!) of 2022, the band has put out a brilliant new double-sided single on Japan’s Urban Discos label, titled Looking Back / Paint it Black.
