UK drummer Andy Hay releases spiritual jazz masterpiece ‘Children Of The Sun’

In what can already be considered a front-runner for album of the year, UK-based drummer, producer and vocalist Andy Hay returns with a 2xLP spiritual jazz masterpiece, titled Children Of The Sun.

This incredible 13-track recording is Hay’s third overall, and is a combination of two consecutive live sessions recorded at Limefield studios in Manchester. On this full-length, Hay sets out to pay homage to trailblazing legends like John Coltrane, Ornette Coleman, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Pharoah Sanders, Albert Ayler and others, while still creating a sound that’s unique and looking towards the future. Children Of The Sun captures a beautiful spiritual energy throughout, blending together soaring horn melodies and solos, driving percussion rhythms, vocal chants, and soulful meditative grooves.

Joining Hay on the session is a superb cast of musicians and longtime collaborators, including Lee Relph (soprano, alto saxophones), Matt Nickson (tenor saxophone, flute), Nicki Dupey (tenor saxophone, double bass), Sarah Littlefield (tenor saxophone), Ben Walker (flute, pipes), John Ellis (piano), Ben Wiltshire (double bass) and percussionists Chris Cruicks and Jan Dzaran.

Not only is the record outstanding, the packaging is also highly impressive, as the cover artwork is hand painted (in true Sun Ra fashion!), dated and signed, making each record completely unique from one another. Each record will also include a booklet featuring insights into the session, and be shipped in a handmade box.

With Children Of The Sun, Andy Hay has has not only created a brilliant jazz gem, but a timeless work of art that we will be enjoying for generations to come. Highly recommended!
