David Durrah — Venus Fly Trap

Clap City Records reissues David Durrah’s 1975 psych-jazz 7-inch ‘Venus Fly Trap’

Following the well-crafted reissue of Wendell Harrison and The Tribe’s Farewell To The Welfare 45rpm, London’s Clap City Records has recently dived back into the vaults of Detroit’s legendary Tribe Records and reissued keyboardist David Durrah’s highly obscure 1975 7-inch single Venus Fly Trap.

This brilliant recording includes two incredible psychedelic spiritual jazz gems including the wildly adventurous and uptempo title track on side A, with the cosmic jazz-funk groover “Kai” on the flip.

The reissue also includes an amazing 44-page zine detailing Durrah’s musical upbringing, and the creation of the soulful spiritual jazz holy-grail album Reflections In The Sea Of Nurnen, also on Tribe records, with drummer and vocalist Doug Hammond.

Already on it’s second limited pressing, Clap City Records has once again produced a quality reissue that, with the fantastic zine, helps tell the story behind this great artist and some of the essential recordings he released with Tribe.
