Two of Finland’s most accomplished jazz artists team up on exploratory full-length
Following a couple of brilliant 7inch single release over the past couple of years, including this year’s ‘Zomp/Dark Magenta‘, two of Finland’s most virtuosic and accomplished jazz artists in Timo Lassy and Teppo Mäkynen team up again for their first full-length album as a duo.
Similar to the duo’s other recordings, this self-titled full-length album was released by the Finland-based We Jazz Records and features Lassy on saxophone and Mäkynen on drums and production duties. The record features thirteen two-to-three minute straight forward tracks that feature the two Helsinki musicians exploring everything from raw and freeform spiritual melodies to rhythmic hard-hitting grooves. The two previous “Finnish jazz album of the year” winners really benefit from the stripped down saxophone-drum setting, allowing each musician to really experiment and push the boundaries musically on each track.
Overall, a great new forward-thinking jazz recording that see’s two of Finland’s finest exploring new sounds.
