Tokyo duo Cruisic cover Azymuth & 808 State on new 7″ Jazz Room Records release
Continuing with a string of essential releases, Paul Murphy’s Jazz Room Records is releasing an incredible new double-sided 7inch featuring covers of both Azymuth’s 1979 “Jazz Carnival” and 808 State’s 1989 “Pacific 707” by jazz-meets-electronic music Tokyo-based duo Cruisic.
Featuring Yukinari Iwata on electronics and Ryusuke Kakizawa on drums and percussion, this incredible single revisits two jazz dancefloor gems that were originally just released on separate 45rpm records over the span of the last three years. Since each limited release, original copies have quickly skyrocketed to over $100, and that’s if you can even find a copy.
The duo’s rendition of “Jazz Carnival”, which came out in 2019 on Flower Records, stays true to the foundation of the 1979 classic, however slows it down a bit and gives it a more spacey cosmic feel.
On the flip, Iwata and Kakizawa turn the acid house classic “Pacific 707” into a more stripped down acoustic jazz groover that is primed to turn up the dancefloor.
Thanks to Jazz Room Records, both of these tracks are much more affordable and accessible for a limited time (that’s not expected to last!).
Cruisic’s ‘Jazz Carnival/Pacific 707’ 7″ will be released on Jazz Room Records on November 18, 2022
