The Maghreban & Idris Rahman — Lions of Juda

The Maghreban & Idris Rahman release electronic version of Steve Reid’s “Lions of Juda”

As a contribution to help support the Steve Reid Foundation, which is a non-profit organization aimed at helping musicians who are in crisis, the UK-based beat maker/producer The Maghreban (aka Ayman Rostom) and saxophonist Idris Rahman (Wildflower, Ill Considered, Soothsayers) have released a new electronic-meets-cosmic jazz rendition of Steve Reid’s 1976 spiritual jazz-funk classic “Lions of Juda”.

The brilliant new track was released in coordination with Worldwide FM’s Steve Reid Foundation Day this past Monday, April 13th, which is the ten year anniversary that the legendary drummer, activist, and composer, which the foundation is named after, sadly passed away.

Thanks to the efforts from the artists and the Steve Reid Foundation, all the proceeds from downloading this track on Bandcamp will be specifically going to Help Musicians (UK) and the Jazz Foundation Of America (NYC), two organizations that are currently helping musicians during the current COVID-19 crisis.

Steve Reid Foundation Day also featured a full day of exclusive DJ sets dedicated to the jazz great from some of the most forward-thinking artists in jazz and electronic music, including Emanative, Nubya Garcia, Charlie Dark, Kieran Hebden, Fay Milton, Tommaso Cappellato, Sarathy Korwar, Daniel Brandt, Ola Szmidt, Morning Mari*, Bex Burch, and a special Jazz Jukebox session from the founder of the Steve Reid Foundation, Gilles Peterson.

Overall, a truly incredible and memorial day of music for a much needed and worthy cause.

Make a contribution to the Steve Reid Foundation, and request a song for Gilles Peterson to play during this week’s extended Jazz Jukebox on Worldwide FM.
