Tata Vasquez’s rare 1979 Latin dance floor jazz essential ‘Ecstasy’ reissued
As we enter the cooler Fall/Winter months, iconic DJ Paul Murphy and his Jazz Room Records label continue to bring the heat with a very welcomed reissue of Tata Vasquez’s extremely rare New York-style Latin jazz dance floor masterpiece, titled Ecstasy.
This massive seven-track recording, produced by Eddie Drennon (who was behind the monster disco hit “Let’s do the Latin Hustle”), is a blend of big band jazz horn arrangements, funky bass line grooves, spooky backing vocals, and some incredible and fiery latin percussion rhythms. The album has a more “left field” mid-tempo vibe than many of the Fania recordings that were coming out during the late seventies.
First being picked up on by the London Ibiza crew in the 90s and later by the Ursula 1000 & Gamm Nu-Jazz crew in the 2000s, well after it’s initial release, the album has become highly sought-out by collectors and deejays globally.
Thanks to Paul Murphy and Jazz Room Records, this essential late 70s Latin dance floor gem is now more readily available than at any other time since it’s initial release. It’s safe to say that the heat just got turned up on jazz dance floors everywhere. Highly recommended!
