The Finland-based Timmion Record label, who has a strong reputation for releasing new limited-edition funk and soul forty-fives, has recently released an incredible 7inch single, titled “This Is What Love Looks Like!” by Carlton Jumel Smith.
For about two decades, the London-based DJ, record label owner, and music producer Gilles Peterson has been a major influence on me. From his work as a radio presenter on both BBC Radio 6 and Worldwide FM, and his eclectic DJ sets, to his Brownswood label, the compilations he produces, and the festivals he puts on, Gilles has opened my eyes to so much amazing music and helped inspire my own musical path.
The first ‘Funk 45’ selection of 2019, is the extremely rare seventies soulful funk recording “Easy Greasy” by the little known group Gentle.
This week (morning of August 16, 2018) we sadly lost one of the greatest vocalists and inspirational figures of our time in Aretha Franklin. The artist who has rightfully been declared the “Queen of Soul” sold over 75 million records, won 18 GRAMMYs, received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and in 1987, became the first women to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
