London trumpeter Nick Walters returns with jazz-fusion recording ‘Marine Mood’

Over the last few years, trumpeter, composer and bandleader Nick Walters has become one of the prominent figures among the creative London jazz scene. Following up on the superb releases that focused on the incorporation of traditional Indian sounds (Padm​ā​sana), and the exploration of sounds from space (Singularity), he returns with a revitalization of his sextet, who last appeared together on his 2019 album Active Imagination, with a brilliant new recording on his D.O.T. label, titled Marine Mood.

Max Beesley’s High Vibes — Zeus

Acid Jazz pioneer Max Beesley returns with long-awaited ‘High Vibes’ debut full-length

UK-based multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer Max Beesley, who has performed alongside notable artists like Incognito, The Brand New Heavies, Jamiroquai, Paul Weller and others, has returned with his ‘High Vibes’ and releases the project’s debut full-length on Légère Recordings, titled Zeus. This marks the first release for the project since he put out two classic 12inches under the same alias on Boogie Back Records during the height of the acid jazz movement in 1993-1994.

Far Out Recordings issues previously unreleased 1975 Brazilian fusion masterpiece by Grupo Um

UK’s Far Out Recordings has recently issued the highly-anticipated previously unreleased 1975 recording, titled Starting Point, from the Brazilian fusion trio known as Grupo Um. Based out of São Paulo, the group features brothers Lelo Nazario (piano/keys) and Zé Eduardo Nazario (drums/percussion), alongside bassist Zeca Assumpção, whom made their mark performing in Hermeto Pascoal’s Grupo (included on Pascoal’s Viajando Com O Som: The Lost ’76 Vice-Versa Studio Session).

Two classic 70s jazz-fusion albums by Ian Carr’s Nucleus reissued

Within about a month’s span, both UK labels We Are Busy Bodies and Be With Records are reissuing (or have reissued) two hard-to-find mid-seventies albums from Nucleus, which was an incredible British progressive jazz-fusion group led by legendary trumpeter Ian Carr that existed in different forms from 1969 all the way through to 1989.  Both labels will be putting out the bands 1974 Under The Sun recording, as well as the group’s brilliant 1975 release, Alleycat.

Ian Carr — Belladonna

Mr Bongo reissues Ian Carr’s iconic 1972 jazz-fusion album ‘Belladonna’

UK-based record shop and label Mr Bongo have recently reissued a half-speed mastered edition of the iconic 1972 jazz-rock-fusion album Belladonna from British trumpeter great Ian Carr. This groundbreaking recording was a part of Carr’s adventurous shift in sound following a number of years during the late 60s performing and recording with the legendary post-hard bop ensemble, The Don Rendell / Ian Carr Quintet.
