Nova Vida (Chris Bangs) — My Only

Chris Bangs’ new ensemble project Nova Vida release Brazilian-influenced jazz dance 7inch

Following his incredible album Firebird, which was released earlier this year, legendary UK producer, deejay, and acid jazz pioneer Chris Bangs has put together an exciting new ensemble project, called Nova Vida. Ahead of the group’s highly-anticipated Spring 2024 full-length debut, they have recently released a brilliant new 7inch single titled My Only on BDQ Records.

This Brazilian-influenced jazz dance groover was originally sung by Danielle Brisebois in a short restaurant scene in James L. Brooks’ 1998 film As Good As It Gets, starring Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunt. Inspired by the less than 2 minute snippet, Bangs decided to produce a new full version of the track featuring Venezuelan vocalist Klei, Argentina guitarist Fermin, and Italian pianist Abramo Riti on both acoustic keys and rhodes. The single includes both a vocal and instrumental version that are equally superb.

As we look forward to the group’s forthcoming album, which promises to fuse together elements of yacht rock, Bossa and some breezy balearic vibes, this incredible single should get plenty of dancefloor play for the remainder of the summer and beyond.
