Selections from Raúl Monsalve y Los Forajidos’ breakthrough ‘Bichos’ album get the remix treatment on new EP
Following last year’s incredible breakthrough full-length album Bichos (named one of BeatCaffeine’s Favorite Albums of 2020) from Venezuelan-rooted group Raúl Monsalve y Los Forajidos, London-based Olindo Records has recently issued a limited-edition 7inch EP featuring superb remixed versions of two selections from the recording.
On the A-side, prolific Mexico-based drummer and producer Orestes Gomez reworks the album’s lead single, “Bocón” into a head-nodding mid-tempo soulful jazz groover. On the flip, Miami-based Venezonix aka Andres Ponce, takes “La pulga” into orbit by incorporating a pulsating drum machine beat and synths to the original’s whirlwind of Chimurenga-inspired guitar and culo’e puya drums.
Limited to just 500 copies, both Orestes Gomez and Venezonix have succeeded in putting their own unique brilliant touch on two of Bichos‘ most standout tracks. Act fast, this one is going to go quick!
