London-based composer and bassist Daniel Casimir, who has been making a strong name for himself over the past few years performing alongside some of the most notable artists among the scene like Joe Armon-Jones, Nubya Garcia, Oscar Jerome, Ashley Henry, Binker Golding and others, has just released his debut album as a bandleader, titled Boxed In on the Jazz re:freshed label.
Earlier in the year, Gilles Peterson and Stuart Baker teamed up to release an incredible 23-track compilation exploring the fusion of jazz, funk, Brazilian, Tropicalia, and disco with Latin and Salsa that emerged in Cuba in the 1970s and 1980s, titled Cuba: Music And Revolution — Culture Clash In Havana Cuba: Experiments In Latin Music 1975-85. With much more music to dive into from this era, London’s Soul Jazz Records has just released volume 2 of this essential series.
Sacred Rhythm Music, which is a pioneering label run by the legendary Joaquin “Joe” Claussell, has just released a superb posthumous EP release, titled Grace, by the late great New York house DJ and producer Carlos Sanchez featuring crossover vocal greats Gregory Porter, Bobby McFerrin, and Kenny Lattimore.
Following up on the group’s 2017 breakthrough EP Yellow Ochre, the cosmic jazz London-based Vels Trio, featuring keyboardist Jack Stephenson-Oliver, bassist Cameron Dawson, and drummer Dougal Taylor have just released their highly-anticipated full-length album Celestial Greens on the Rhythm Section International label.
Producer, composer, multi-instrumentalist and 22a label boss, Ed ‘Tenderlonious’ Cawthorne continues to make his mark as one of the most pioneering musicians of our time, through his explorations of jazz, house, electronic music, and Hindustani classical. After a series of remarkable albums that have individually focused on those sounds, the London-based artist has brought all those elements and influences together on a brilliant new album, titled Still Flute.
London-based Jazz Room Records, which is run by legendary jazz DJ Paul Murphy, continues it’s onslaught of “must-have” releases in 2021, with a very welcomed reissue of The Arpeggio Jazz Ensemble’s highly obscure 1987 spiritual soul-jazz masterpiece Le – Le.
Berlin-based label Sonorama Records has recently reissued, for the first time since it’s original 1975 release, Jamaican tenor saxophonist Fitz Gore and his adventurous group The Talismen’s highly obscure soulful spiritual jazz debut album Soundnitia.
Saxophonist and composer Nubya Garcia has been among one of the groundbreaking artists at the forefront of London’s thriving jazz scene. Her critically-acclaimed 2020 debut full-length album SOURCE was at the top of many “best of” lists (including BeatCaffeine’s Favorite Albums of 2020), and was recently nominated for the prestigious Mercury Prize. With the help of some of today’s most forward-thinking artists, the album gets the full on remix treatment on a brand new release, titled SOURCE ⧺ WE MOVE.
As we enter the cooler Fall/Winter months, iconic DJ Paul Murphy and his Jazz Room Records label continue to bring the heat with a very welcomed reissue of Tata Vasquez’s extremely rare New York-style Latin jazz dance floor masterpiece, titled Ecstasy.
Highly innovative London-based singer, songwriter, producer, and DJ, Adam Scrimshire, who is also one of the minds behind both Wah Wah 45s and the Albert’s Favourites labels, returns with an incredible new atmospheric and deeply meditative full-length album, titled Nothing Feels Like Everything.
