Naosuke Myiamoto Sextet’s 1973 Japanese modal jazz classic ‘Step!’ reissued
The French-based Le Très Jazz Club label reissues, for the first time, Naosuke Myiamoto Sextet’s brilliant modal jazz recording Step!.
Originally released on the highly renowned Japanese jazz label Three Blind Mice, is a nice blend of hard-bop, and deep modal jazz grooves. Led by double bassist Naosuke Myiamoto, the record features two compositions by the late great tenor saxophonist Harold Land, and three originals including the spiritual jazz classic “One For Trane.”
On the recording Myiamoto is backed by a solid cast of Japanese jazz musicians including Masayoshi Yoneda on the piano, Takashi Goto on saxophone, alto saxophonist Takashi Furuya, Kunji Shigi on trumpet, and drummer Shoji Nakayama.
This is the seventh release for Le Très Jazz Club, and with original copies going for upwards of $700, it makes a lot of sense that this reissue is already flying off the shelves. Solid from start to finish, this is definitely one of those releases that you should not sleep on. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
