Poder Del Alma — Mimo / Bacanal 76

Mexico City-based label Discodelic releases 7inch featuring two 1975 Nicaraguan Latin funk gems by Poder Del Alma

Mexico City-based label Discodelic presents the first release of their exclusive three-part limited edition 7inch series highlighting rare Nicaraguan Afro-Latin music, with two funky 1975 gems from Managua group Poder Del Alma.

Both tracks on this release “Mimo” and “Bacanal 76”, were originally included on the group’s extremely hard-to-find 1975 full-length album (even impossible to find in Nicaragua), and feature a nice blend of Latin jazz and funk, with cosmic psychedelic grooves, and salsa-influenced rhythms. Primed perfectly for those tropical-inspired dancefloors, I wouldn’t be surprised to see this 7inch receive some heavy rotation throughout the next few months of summer.

The well-crafted packaging also includes insightful liner notes featuring interviews with band members Román Cerpas, Rene “Chapo” Domínguez, and Mike Cortina. Eight years in the making, this must-own release is limited to 100 copies in orange marbled wax, and an additional 500 copies in black standard wax. Don’t sleep, this one is going to be sold out everywhere very soon. Highly recommended!
