Matasuna Records reissues two obscure 70s Latin funk gems from Los Sobrinos Del Juez
Continuing this year’s incredible string of releases, the Berlin-based label Matasuna Records reissues two Latin funk gems from the pioneering Miami group Los Sobrinos Del Juez on a new 7inch.
Led by the Cuban-born producer and singer Carlos Oliva, both of these tracks were originally included on the group’s highly sought-after 1974 full-length, which went under the English translation of the band name, The Judge’s Nephews. Side A features the uptempo Latin funk dance floor monster “Harina de Maiz”, while the flip features the Latin jazz groover “Corned Beef Hash”.
Featuring a solid cast of other Cuban musicians, Los Sobrinos Del Juez (aka The Judge’s Nephews) were based out of Miami, Florida and were one of the leading groups that helped define the “Miami Sound” in the sixties and seventies, fusing Cuban and Latin American influences with rock, blues, jazz, funk and soul.
Overall, another superbly crafted reissue from the Matasuna label, who continues to shed light on some of the rarest and most sought-after Latin funk recordings. Don’t sleep, this limited-edition vinyl-only release will be sell out quickly.
