Mad About Records reissues rare 1975 spiritual jazz-funk masterpiece by Jothan Callins & The Sounds Of Togetherness
Portugal-based Mad About Records, who consistently re-release some of the rarest recordings known, are reissuing the highly-obscure 1975 spiritual jazz-funk masterpiece Wind Of Change by trumpeter Jothan Callins and his superb group, known as The Sounds Of Togetherness.
This brilliant four-track recording has a similar vibe as many of the classic Strata-East recordings with expanded grooves and adventurous solos, and features an incredible cast of heavy-weight musicians backing Callins, including bassist Cecil McBee, drummer Norman Connors, pianist Joseph Bonner, and percussionist Roland Duval.
Very little is known about the actual session other than Callins was teaching at NYC at the time and this is the only recording of this particular group. Callins did go on to perform with the Sun Ra Arkestra, and played with Olatunji in the late 1960s.
This is the first time this album has been reissued, and like the original release, includes a 4-page booklet.
With originals of this essential and timeless record going for upwards of $400, this reissue from Mad About Records is very-much welcomed!
