Kenny Mann with Liquid Pleasure

Mad About Records reissues 1980 modern soul “Holy Grail” album from Kenny Mann with Liquid Pleasure

After a number of years of re-releasing some of the best and most obscure recordings, you can basically guarantee that if Portugal’s Mad About Records is putting something out, it’s going to be absolutely incredible. That string of essential releases continues with their recent reissue of the 1980 modern soul full-length gem from vocalist and keyboardist Kenny Mann and his group Liquid Pleasure.

This extremely rare self-titled eight-track recording started to catch attention following Kon’s brilliant 2016 edit of the group’s dancefloor track “Tin Top“, which was released on a twelve-inch single for BBE Records. The group’s only full-length album was originally released in very small quantities by a local press in North Carolina, and it nicely blends together elements of modern soul, early boogie, soul jazz, and cosmic funk. The superb soulful feel-good jazz dance groover “Say What” should be a constant on the dancefloors this summer (once things open back up!).

Over the decades since it’s release, the album has gained a lot of attention from collectors and has certainly reached “holy grail” status, with originals now going for upwards of over $1,000. With the limited-edition reissue (only 500!) already flying off record shelves, this is an essential release you’ll definitely want to snatch up quickly. Highly recommended!

Finally, can we get t-shirts made with this album artwork … pure gold!
