Moses Boyd - Displaced Diaspora

London’s Leading Drummer Moses Boyd Releases ‘Displaced Diaspora’

Drummer and producer Moses Boyd is one of the leading and most cutting-edge artists in today’s thriving London jazz scene. Over the past few years, he has performed on some of the best recordings alongside other major players of the UK jazz scene including Nubya Garcia, Oscar Jerome, Joe Armon-Jones, Shabaka Hutchings, Zara MacFarlane, Four Tet, Gilles Peterson, and others.

Last year, he teamed up with tenor saxophonist Binker Goldings and released one of the best jazz albums of 2017 in Journey To The Mountain Of Forever, and put out the excellent four-song EP Absolute Zero through The Vinyl Factory.

Boyd has just released his new album, titled Displaced Diaspora on his own Exodus Records imprint, and it is a collection of music he recorded back in 2015 during the same sessions that produced the now classic “Rye Lane Shuffle.” The album features a number of artists that Boyd works with often, including Sons of Kemet tuba player Theon Cross, saxophonist Nubya Garcia, trombonist Nathaniel Cross, vocalists Zara McFarlane and Terri Walker, rapper Louis VI, saxophonist and bata player Kevin Haynes with his Grupo Eleggua.

On this album, Boyd’s diversity and strength as both a drummer and a producer is clearly on display, brilliantly fusing together jazz, electronic beats, African-influenced rhythms, cosmic grooves, and hip-hop breaks.

Overall, Displaced Diaspora is a remarkable record that shows why he is one of the musicians leading the way in jazz right now.
