London’s cosmic jazz crusaders Cykada release debut album
The experimental London-based sextet, featuring members of Maisha, Ezra Collective, Myriad Forest, Undergrooveland, Family Atlantica, Where Pathways Meet, and Don Kipper are set to release their debut album this March.
Led by bassist Jamie Benzies, Cykada also includes founding members keyboardist Tilé Gichigi-Lipere and drummer Tim Doyle aka Chiminyo, as well as trumpeter Axel Kaner-Lidstrom, saxophonist James Mollison and guitarist Javi Pérez.
The band’s music is extremely eclectic and diverse, fusing together funky analog-based grooves, electronics, cosmic atmospheric textures, and jazz-inspired rhythms and improvisation that are influenced heavily by West African, Eastern European, and Turkish musical roots.
The group’s debut album, which is features 5 tracks and roughly 40 minutes of music, was recorded live back in December 2017 at London’s Total Refreshment Centre. The highly anticipated self-titled recording comes out March 22nd on Astigmatic Record.
