JULY 30: BeatCaffeine Presents Higher Ground featuring Javier Santiago
On Tuesday, July 30th, BeatCaffeine’s Higher Ground returns featuring Bay Area’s cosmic jazz pianist Javier Santiago and his trio at The RIC bar in Oakland.
ABOUT THE EVENT
For this performance, Javier Santiago and his trio will be performing two sets that will include some new music and selections off Santiago’s brilliant Ropeadope Records’ debut Phoenix.
BeatCaffeine’s TJ Gorton will be hosting the night and be spinning jazz-funk, rare cosmic grooves beginning at 7pm and in-between sets.
ABOUT JAVIER SANTIAGO
Born and raised in Minneapolis, MN, and now based in San Francisco, CA, Javier Santiago is a composer, pianist, an artistic visionary who embraces jazz-rooted traditions while looking ahead by embracing a wide array of influences, technology, and forward-thinking concepts. His breakthrough 2018 debut full-length Phoenix, was released on the Philadelphia-based Ropeadope Records and featured an incredible lineup of guest artists including guitarist Nir Felder, trumpeter Nicholas Payton, saxophonists Dayna Stephens and Ben Flocks, drummer and member of Butcher Brown Corey Fonville, and many others. The record incorporates hypnotic atmospheric tones, spacey synth melodies, and groove-oriented rhythms. The album received high-praise by deejays and music critics internationally, and was named #1 Best Jazz Record of 2018 by Vinyl Me, Please.
