Jazz Room Records reissues obscure 1964 cool jazz dance 7inch ‘Le Monocle Rit Jaune’ by Michel Magne
Fresh off of the reissue release of Khan Jamal’s 1984 spiritual jazz “holy grail” Infinity, Paul Murphy’s Jazz Room Records has just reissued the highly obscure 1964 cool jazz 7inch Le Monocle Rit Jaune by highly prolific French film composer Michel Magne.
This essential four-track 45rpm single is taken from the 1960’s Georges Lautner directed Action/Comedy film “Le Monocle Rit Jaune”. Musically, the title track has a West Coast cool jazz dance groove, in the same vein as The Dave Brubeck Quartet’s 1959 all-time classic “Take Five”. The three tracks on the b-side have a much more experimental soundtrack-like vibe.
With original copies extremely hard-to-find and going upwards of $300-plus, and this limited-edition reissue already on the verge of selling out, I highly recommend picking up a copy of this well-crafted release immediately.
