Italian multi-instrumentalist Tommaso Cappellato releases latest beat tape ‘Butterflying’
Highly acclaimed drummer and multi-instrumentalist Tommaso Cappellato has just released a great new “beat tape” titled Butterflying, off of the recently launched Italian-based label and pressing plant Mother Tongue.
Over the past few years, Cappellato has made a strong name for himself working collaboratively with a wide range of current groundbreaking jazz and electronic artists including Nicola Conte, Mark de Clive-Lowe, DJ Khalab, and his new project Astral Travel featuring Dwight Trible.
On this eight-track recording, the Italian-based musician, composer, and producer nicely fuses together chopped-up lo-fi hip hop beats with jazz-influenced instrumentation, cosmic synth lines, and ambient-like tones.
Cappellato constructed numerous programmed beats throughout the recording, while also adding live percussion and keys. He also received some solid contributions from a number of special guest musicians including pianist Matteo Alfonso and bassist Andrea Lombardini on “Splinters Of A Rainbow Heart,” cellist Yu Lin Humm on “Humming Beings,” keyboardist Alberto Lincetto on “Catch Me If You Can,” and flutist Piero Bittolo Bon on “No Flies For A Closed Mouth.”
Overall, a great new release featuring a heavy-dose of hypnotic beats from one of the most eclectic drummers currently blurring the lines between jazz and electronic music.
