Flamingo Pier and Soundway team up again for new EP ahead of festival

Ahead of this weekend’s Flamingo Pier festival at the Rangihoua Olive Grove on New Zealand’s Waiheke Island, the native DJ collective, for a second straight year, have teamed up with the London-based Soundway records to release a complimentary EP release, titled Indigo.

Recorded in both Auckland and London during the past year, the new EP picks up where last year’s release left off, featuring four more ready-for-the-dancefloor cuts that fuse together cosmic tropical melodies, Afro-boogie, and funky disco-house grooves. The hot weather vibes of the recording truly captures the spirit of both the music and atmospheric energy that’s presented at the highly popular annual festival.

Written, produced and recorded by Flamingo Pier resident deejays Luke WalkerDominic Jones and Bradley Craig, the record also includes additional contributions from local New Zealand collaborators, percussionist Isaac Chadderton and brass player Finn Scholes.

This year’s two-day festival is completely sold out, and will feature special guests Gilles Peterson, Lord Echo, Julian Dyne, Sadar Bahar, Ray Mang, Soundway Records label founder Miles Cleret, the Flamingo Pier DJ collective, and many more.

With music like this, it’s not hard to look ahead a few months to those warm summer nights. Regardless, hopefully these Flamingo Pier-Soundway collaborative releases becomes an ongoing annual event.
