FUNK 45: Scorpio & His People’s extremely rare and mysterious “The Unforgiven” reissued
Ubiquity Recordings has recently reissued one of the most obscure and mysterious funk forty-fives to ever be discovered in Scorpio & His People’s 1972 ‘The Unforgiven/Theme From Movietown Sound’.
Even though original copies of this double A-side funk single have gone for upwards of $4,000, there is very little known about the actual recording session or the band outside of the fact that they were supposedly based out of the Los Angeles, CA region. Regardless, the music here speaks for itself with “The Unforgiven” featuring some soulful female vocals backed by a deep funk groove, while “Theme From Movietown Sound” has more gritty vibe featuring driving piano melodies and some heavy-hitting breaks.
Overall, this early seventies soul-funk gem is an all-time classic. With the probability that 99.9% of the collectors will never come across an original copy, this is a much welcomed reissue. I recommend snatching this one up quickly!
