Cosmos Dwellerz Arkestra’s 1970s experimental fusion session finally released
Cosmos Dwellerz Arkestra was a project originally formed in the early 1970s by multi-instrumentalist and composer Sanifu Al Hall Jr. Up until recently, the music recorded by the group went unissued. DJ Sigher (aka Russell Paine) has just released an incredible twelve-inch featuring the jazz fusion “Love Thoughts” on his Super Disco Edits label.
Recorded in 1977, “Love Thoughts” is a brilliant mid-tempo cosmic groover, that fuses together spacey jazz-funk grooves, electronics, ambient tones, and hypnotic melodies.
Sanifu plays a number of instruments on the track, including trombone (through a unique signal processor), piano, synthesizers, percussion, and vocals. The recording also features Cedric Lawson on electric piano, guitarist Kenny Klimax, bassist David Shields, drummer Ndugu Chancler, and Darrel Harris on congas.
On the B-side of the twelve, features a fascinating 33-minute interview with Sanifu in which he discusses his musical story and approach to life.

It’s truly surprising that it took over 40 years for this recording to see the light of day. Hopefully there are plans in the near future works to release more works from this group. Recommended for fans of Sun Ra Arkestra, and Lonnie Liston Smith.
