Copenhagen-based Nejrup releases brilliant spaced-out jazz debut EP ‘Manda’
Based out of Denmark’s capitol city of Copenhagen, Nejrup is a self-taught pianist, synth wizard, and producer who has just released an incredible EP, titled Manda on Creek Inc Records.
This debut recording brilliantly fuses together Fender Rhodes melodies and spacey-synth lines with broken beat rhythms, modular soundscapes, and cosmic atmospheric tones. The music works just as well on the dance floor as it does in a calmer listening environment setting, blurring the lines perfectly between live intricate jazz instrumentation and programmed electronic music.
The record features four-tracks, including two versions of the title track “Manda,” as well as the more uptempo arpeggio driven-based “Calm Cacophony.” Rounding out the recording is a solid syncopated-based broken beat remix of “Calm Cacophony” by London producer K15.
Overall, Manda EP is truly an impressive debut, and easily one of my favorite releases of 2019. I’m already excited to hear what’s next on the docket from this breakthrough artist.
