An eclectic selection of today’s most forward-thinking jazz featured on ‘The Congregation’ compilation
Italian DJ, broadcaster and internationally respected Mixcloud selector Massimiliano “Jazzcat” Conti has teamed up with the Milan-based label Right Tempo on a brilliant new compilation, titled The Congregation: Jazz Alliance International, that highlights some of today’s most forward-thinking jazz that’s currently being released.
In celebration of the label’s 30th anniversary, this superb 2LP compilation features twelve standout tracks that have been previously released over the last couple of years, including selection from British/Trinidadian poet Anthony Joseph, Los Angeles spiritual soul-jazz ensemble Jimetta Rose & The Voices of Creation, Leeds based trumpeter Malcolm Strachan, modern-day jazz dance pioneer Nicola Conte, Italian drummer Francesco Sotgiu, the late great Mexican percussionist Tino Contreras, Acid Jazz’s recently signed group Mama Terra, rising Portuguese producer Azar Azar, Organic Pulse Ensemble and much more. Many of the selections have been featured on numerous of the recordings that have been highlighted on this platform, as well as some of 2023’s “Favorite’s Lists”.
This compilation also features a previously unreleased track from Hiro Hawanohara aka Yellowtail and the late legendary vocalist Mark Murphy. Titled “Seasons In My Mind” and reworked here by Patchworks, this recording took place in 2011 when Murphy was 77 years of age. It was discovered by Right Tempo’s Art Director Giulio “Jazzy Jules” Maini and made available for the first time. Exclusive limited-edition 12inch remixes of “Seasons in My Mind” will also soon be released as a part of the first installment of the forthcoming Right Tempo Pro series.
With early radio support by Patrick Forge (NTS), Colin Curtis (Hitmix Radio), Kevin Beadle (TWR), Harv Nagi (Point Blank FM), David Patterson (JFSR), and many others, Jazzcat has successfully compiled an impressive new compilation that highlights an expansive selection of tracks and artists that are at the forefront of today’s jazz scene.
‘The Congregation: Jazz Alliance International’ will officially be released on Right Tempo March 1, 2024.
