Vocalist Zara McFarlane & dub pioneer Dennis Bovell team up on “East of the River Nile”
Brownswood recording artist and extremely talented London-based vocalist Zara McFarlane teams up with reggae producer and innovator Dennis Bovell on a new rendition of Augustus Pablo’s 1977 dub classic “East of the River Nile.”
Released as a twelve-inch single, this new arrangement of the track by trombonist Nathaniel Cross nicely blends McFarlane’s soulful vocals and layered horn melodies, with reggae and dub influenced grooves.
Mixed by Bovell, the single features a strong supporting cast of musicians including Cross on trombone, Jay Darwish on electric bass, Ashley Henry on keys, Junior Alli-Balogun on percussion, and Binker Golding on tenor saxophone. Moses Boyd plays drums and also produced the track.
Overall, this great new version of this dub classic is easily one of BeatCaffeine’s favorite singles of 2019 so far.
