Vibration Black Finger releases adventurous new spiritual jazz album on Jazzman Records
Highly accomplished UK-based DJ and producer, Lascelle ‘Lascelles’ Gordon, who was also a founding member of legendary acid-jazz group The Brand New Heavies, returns with a brilliant new Vibration Black Finger full-length album on Jazzman Records, titled Can You See What I’m Trying to Say.
Conceptually put together over the past three years, this twelve-track album is VBF’s most adventurous recording to date, blending together spiritual jazz and cosmic grooves, with beat-laden rhythms, spacey-electronics, moody atmospheric tones, soaring horns, and haunting vocals. Intended to be a complete listening experience, each track nicely blends into the next, featuring a number of instrumental interludes that help bridge the music together into a seamless expression of music. The record also features an incredible new rendition of New Life Trio’s 1978 gem “Empty Streets,” that originally featured jazz great Steve Reid on drums.
A number of special guest vocalists are also included on the recording, including Ebony Rose (“Empty Streets”), who was also featured on VBF’s 2019 single “Sweet Nothing,” and Maggie Nichols, who is featured on “Acting of Liberation Part 2.” The album also includes voices of Gordon’s nieces (heard on “Law of the Universe”), which were recorded 25 years ago.
Vibration Black Finger have released a number of great records over the last four years, however Can You See What I’m Trying to Say is VBF’s most complete and forward-thinking album to date. Highly recommended!
