‘Two Tribes’ Compilation Highlight’s New African-Rooted Music out of Europe
The German-based Agogo label has released a great new compilation highlighting a number of forward-thinking artists currently living in Europe, that are incorporating African-rooted traditions into their own music.
From African-rooted artists currently based in Europe, to collaborations between European and African artists, the record celebrates diversity and intercontinental openness in music. Titled, Two Tribes, the recording is wide ranging in sound, blending electronic beats, African funk, Ethio-jazz, and dub together in unique and innovative ways that utilize both traditional African instrumentation and electronic production.
This brilliant 12-track compilation, described as “an intercontinental journey in rhythm,” features great artists including Elias Agogo, Gyedu Blay Ambolley, Jacob Mafuleni, The Sorcerers, Mr Raoul K and many others.
It’s early in the year, however I feel confident that this compilation will be one of the best of 2019.
