Tropical space-disco group The Mauskovic Dance Band release debut full-length on Soundway
The Amsterdam five-piece band follows-up last year’s breakthrough EP Down in the Basement with their highly-anticipated debut full-length album on Soundway Records.
This brilliant eight-song self-titled recording incorporates 70s and 80s era Columbian and Peruvian-based psychedelic influences, combined with funky Caribbean-style rhythms, explosive no wave dance grooves, spaced-out synth melodies, and lo-fi atmospheric vocals. Throughout the recording there is a strong presence of a wide array of Afro-Latin musical styles including Palenque, cumbia, Afrobeat, and picó soundsystem culture.
The album was remarkably recorded in the storage space of Amsterdam’s Garage Noord, a current hotbed for clubgoers in the city, and was mixed by the tag-team duo Bruxas, which features band leader Nicola Mauskovic and Dutch neo-psychedelic artist Jacco Gardner.
Overall, this is another incredible release from one of the most uniquely original and forward-thinking bands that are active today. With this full-length album, The Mauskovic Dance Band have pretty much created the tropical dance party soundtrack of the summer, for both this planet and outer-space.
