Trio Ternura’s 1973 Brazilian Classic ‘A Gira’ Reissued
Floating Points & Red Greg’s Melodies International label just released the first-ever 7” reissue of the highly sought-after 1973 Brazilian classic “A Gira” by Trio Ternura.
Meaning “Tenderness Trio,” the Brazilian group is made up of three siblings (one brother and two sisters) with other members of the family contributing to the songwriting and instrumentation.
The funky tropical dance floor gem blends Brazilian influences, chanting vocals, and percussive poly-rhythms. According to the group, “A Gira” is a tribute to nature and spirituality.
On the flip features the group’s version of Gato Barbieri’s “Last Tango in Paris.” The first bilingual issue of the label’s extremely insightful ‘melozine’ comes with each copy of the record. With the original selling for around $300, I expect this reissue to go very quickly!
