Tenderlonious and Lorenzo Morresi team up for Italian-inspired jazz funk full-length
Following the success of recent limited-edition 7inch singles “Cosmica Italiana” (2020) and “Acqua” (2022), Italian DJ, producer and musician Lorenzo Morresi and UK producer, composer, multi-instrumentalist and 22a label boss, Ed ‘Tenderlonious’ Cawthorne will release their highly-anticipated full-length album, also titled Cosmica Italiana.
This brilliant 11-track recording pays homage to the funky cinematic sounds of 60s and 70s Italian soundtracks and library music, and the pioneering and experimental composers from this era, including Piero Umiliani, Amleto Armando Roelens and Ennio Morricone. Through their mutual love of this era, Morresi and Tenderlonious have been able to recapture the essence of this sound, while providing a fresh approach, blending together everything from jazz-funk and cosmic grooves, to Italo disco and spacey electronic-based instrumental beats.
Throughout the session, Moressi plays bass, guitar, keys, and drum machines, while Tenderlonious plays the flute, saxophones, additional keys, percussion, programming, and vocals. Also featured on the recording is drummer Archelao Macrillo and keyboardist Emilio Merone.
Overall, the duo deliver on an incredible thematic recording that celebrates this iconic and timeless chapter in Italian instrumental music.
Lorenzo Morresi & Tenderlonious’s ‘Cosmica Italiana’ is officially released via 22a on July 29, 2022.
